4 years of Unsplash

It’s been 1460 days since we started Unsplash and this past year was our biggest yet. We’ve become our own company (Unsplash Inc.) and grew to twenty people (and we’re looking for a few more). We’ve spent our first year in the new office and still can’t stop staring at the ceiling 👀.

We moved into an old bank.

We’ve made our community more “community-y” by adding the ability to follow people, stats on your photos, and notifications to keep track of all this activity. We made our search smarter and faster. We created the ability to add stories to your photos because sometimes context is everything.

I feel silly that this has been on my doorstep for the last 6 years while I’ve lived in the west country and this was the first time I’ve visited. This isn’t even a drone shot, just balls and the edge of a cliff.

Unsplash Stories

We killed a font (sorry Courier) and replaced it with system-native fonts to make sure Unsplash looks great on any device. We launched a slick integration to add Unsplash photos to your Apple TV.

And speaking of integrations, companies like Trello, InVision, Weebly, Naver, and over 6000 others have used our API to add Unsplash photos to their applications.

Our local Unsplash Ambassadors hosted 28 events in nine countries. That’s a lot of stuff. But none of it means anything without you. You uploaded 200,000 photos, which got 20 billion views, and downloaded 200 million times.
